PKP Machine Gun

Description

An evolution of the soviet era PKM general purpose machine gun, the PKP series has been updated with numerous improvements for modern warfare. It’s lighter due to the fixed barrel but maintains the same reliability and heavy-hitting 7.62x54R round. The latest variants include the PKP-SP featuring a shorter barrel designed for a suppressor, and the PKP-Bullpup, an even more compact model in service with Spetsnaz units.

PRIMAL Assessment

Like the PKM the PKP is an extremely reliable and battle-proven design. The lower weight makes it easier to maneuver however the recoil of the powerful 7.62x54R rounds can be challenging for accurate fire. A drawback of the PKP is its use of non-disintegrating ammunition belts meaning the empty belt remains hanging from the weapon until all bullets are expended. The latest variants of the PKP are signature weapons for Russian Spetsnaz. PRIMAL operatives could use them to make a mission appear to be Russian-sponsored.
