1911

Description

A classic pistol, the 1911 has been used by US forces in every war since World War One. It’s characterized by the .45ACP round which generally hits with twice the muzzle energy as a 9mm. Currently still in use by some elite units including MARSOC.

PRIMAL Assessment

Highly accurate when tuned, with a crisp single-action trigger, it’s more suitable as a competition handgun than a field weapon. Reliability in harsh conditions, a single-stack magazine, heavy steel frame, and relatively high recoil are limiting factors. The enhanced stopping power of the .45ACP cartridge, however, is particularly useful when fired from a suppressed weapon as it maintains reasonable lethality when firing subsonic loads. PRIMAL operatives prefer .45s in more modern polymer designs from manufacturers such as HK and Beretta.
