40MM GRENADE LAUNCHER

Description:

40mm grenade launchers have not changed much since they became popular with the M79 in Vietnam. The ammunition however has developed and the standard High-Explosive Dual Purpose rounds have been supplemented by a new generation of anti-armor, anti-personnel, thermobaric, and even door-breaching grenades.

PRIMAL Assessment:

For door breaching, the breaching grenade will defeat booby-traps as well as incapacitate any enemy immediately behind the door. Like any explosive entry, the effects will need to consider the risk to civilians.
