M60

Description

The M60 is a Vietnam-war-era general purpose machine gun in use by US forces. A belt-fed 7.62mm weapon equivalent to the FN MAG or PKM, the M60 has never achieved the popularity of these iconic weapons. Nicknamed ‘The Pig’ due to its bulk, the M60 was eventually replaced in the US Army by the FN MAG designated as the M240.

PRIMAL Assessment

The latest M60 variants are excellent weapons, however the original issued version is badly flawed. Its main problems were lack of reliability and awkward barrel changes. The barrel had a permanently attacked bipod and no handle, which led to the weapon system being issued with an insulated glove. PRIMAL operators prefer to use the MK48, which is lighter and with a collapsible stock more compact than even the latest M60s.
