Description:

MOIS, also known as VEVAK is Iran's lead intelligence agency. Its primary focus is on internal security and suppressing dissidents although it continues to keep an eye on Israel and the US. Like Qods Force, MOIS maintains links with Iranian-sponsored terrorist organizations such as Hezbollah.

PRIMAL Assessment:

Little is known of MOIS activities, at least in the public domain. A Wikileaks expose in 2010 alleged that MOIS regularly used the Iranian Red Crescent aid organization as a cover for infiltrating intelligence operatives into war zones. Also, according to open source information MOIS was particularly active in Iraq following the 2003 invasion. While IRGC Qods Force was the lead agency in supporting the insurgency against the Coalition Forces, MOIS aggressively expanded its agent network to conduct espionage and influence operations against the new Iraqi Government.
