Mk48

Description:

Developed by FN Herstal at the request of US Special Operations Command, the Mk48 is a 7.62mm version of Mk46 light machine-gun which in turn was a variation on the M249 SAW design. It was developed in response to the longer engagement ranges soldiers were experiencing in Afghanistan to give SOF and dismounted infantry a lightweight 7.62mm machine-gun.

PRIMAL Assessment:

An excellent weapon system. With the latest tungsten carbide armor-piercing ammunition it is effective against most types of civilian armored cars. Importantly for PRIMAL covert operations, with the collapsible para stock and removable barrel, the weapon can be discreetly transported and quickly assembled.
