SAS

Description

 

Otherwise known as 22 Special Air Service Regiment, the SAS is one of the worlds most renowned and experienced special operations units. It gained notoriety for hostage rescue after the Iranian Embassy siege in 1980 and honed its plain-clothed counter-terrorism capabilities battling the IRA in Northern Ireland. Desert warfare operations have included campaigns in Oman, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya, jungle warfare in Malaya and Sierra Leone. They likely supported the KLA in the Kosovo conflict however this is yet to be publicly acknowledged.

 

 

 

PRIMAL Assessment

 

The SAS usually deploys in small teams and works closely with other elements of UK Special Forces such as the Special Reconnaissance Regiment, Special Forces Support Group, and the Special Boat Service. Initial SAS selection is now run jointly with the SBS. An element of the SAS is tasked to conduct covert action and babysit MI6 operatives when working in high-risk environments. The SAS are assessed as being a highly potent special operations capability.
