PRIMAL Assessment:

When Vance used the MK18 in PRIMAL Origin it was the most common short barreled carbine in use by the US military. Compact, light and fairly reliable, it was a good weapon for jobs where a full-sized weapon was too long. It does however have a tendency to overheat when throwing a bucket load of ammo down range and the ballistics of the 5.56mm round are sub-optimal for a short barrel. PRIMAL operatives in later books prefer to use more advanced weaponry like the Israeli Tavor and HK MP7.
